Co Workers Birthday Cards & Party Ideas

Everything I know, I learned, after I felt the thirst! Yes, guessed right… I feel almost exactly like Georges Benjamin Clemenceau – the famous French statesman. It was not until I was a 22-years old woman when I showed my urge to celebrate my birthday day after I became an adult. It was the first time I remember, I celebrated my adulthood birthday and I came to know how much different it was from celebrating a kid’s birthday. It is obviously — that everybody knows! But what was really memorable in my party, was the way my colleagues came up in a very unique way

If you are planning to throw a birthday party or if you are invited in your co-worker’s birthday party, this article on co-worker’s birthday party ideas might come to a great help for you to create a perfect bash. Starting from the decoration to food recipe and birthday gift ideas, things are all entirely different from the way we celebrate birthdays of our brothers, kids and other family members.

Let’s start off with the Birthday Invitation

The first impression is the last impression – this is what I believe in. So when it comes to invitation it must hold the right spirit of the party. You can make your own birthday invitation card, if you have ideas. But that would claim a lot of your precious time and no one can afford to invest time out of the daily hectic schedule of life. Why do so, when there are loads of awesome online birthday invitation cards to let your co-workers know that you are ready to chill the drink. Some of them are absolutely free! Picking the right one is all you need to do. Remember that calling over your peeps and inviting your colleagues on your birthday party are different. The co worker birthday cards are different in their style too.

Your Birthday Menu For Your Co-workers

This is again another significant aspect to spare a thought on. Cake is an obvious item to be included in the menu. But you would also want to delight your special guests with some really special dishes. Remember that this is your birthday party where you have invited your colleagues and co workers. The choice of food must match the age group and mood. It all depends on the type of guests invited and your choice too. But don’t forget to include drinks! So go ahead and have fun to the full swing and if you haven’t yet tried Budweiser or Johnnie Walker in your birthday party, it’s the right time to strike your guests with a shriek of surprise with big treats like these! So just keep walking with Johnnie Walker and make your guests rock around with the beats. Try to create a sexy atmosphere with great music and a good bar. Doesn’t matter whether you keep a smart bartender – self help would be more appreciated!

Co worker Birthday Gift Ideas

If you are invited in your colleague’s birthday party, the first thing that might strike your mind is the birthday gift. This is one really toughest decision to make for some people. If your colleague is a beer drinking champion, you can delight him or her with a beer sampler pack. There is no better way you can reach out to him or her than by giving a gorgeous 6-pack sampler of California Microbrews that come in 12 ounce bottles each. This will surely be a fantastic birthday gift and will keep your colleague warm around the campfire immediately after the party will be over.

Any other gift may be fine if that matches the aura of his or her personality. Pick something that will add some “mojo” back into your office. A dollar-sign paperweight, gold push-pins and personalized mouse pad may put smile on his or her face.

Baby Boomers, Older Workers and Senators not Retiring

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by the year 2014, an estimated 78 million Baby Boomers will retire from the workforce with only 600 000 workers entering to replace them.   Where are these retiring Baby Boomers going? Not home, that’s for sure.  Baby Boomers are retooling, going back to school and looking for new skills to begin new careers.   Retirement is becoming more of a temporary segue into a new life, now increasingly known as the encore career.

A recent blog post written at PennFoster.edu states, “It looks like retirement is becoming a thing of the past for the middle class. No more “winter condos” in Florida or retirement homes in Arizona.”

Cynthia Metzler, president and CEO of Experience Works, a national nonprofit organization cites the following in support of older workers in  the labor pool:

1.  The Society of HR Managers shares that 77% have a higher level of commitment to the organization than younger workers.
2. A Buck Consultants survey shares that 88% of employers said that mature workers’ knowledge provided a significant business advantage.
3. A study by National Council on Aging and McDonalds, says that 97% of employers surveyed said older workers were thorough and reliable.

If anyone wanted additional proof that people are working longer and well into their senior years, look no further than the United States Congress where the average age is now 61.8 years.

Lauren Victoria Burke, in an AP article, shared that the constitutional framers, in the late 18th century, set the minimum age requirement for the Senate at 30 and for the House at 25 years.  At the time, that was considered late middle age at a time when the average life expectancy was around 40 years.”

Fast forward to today and you will find active members of congress who are well into their senior years.

Since the first session of the United States Congress, in 1789, the average age of members of the Senate has risen from 47 years to an all time high today of 61.8 years according to Senate records.

Senator Robert Byrd at 90 years old is the longest-serving senator in history.  He told a reporter recently to “Shut up”, when the reporter asked how he would respond to those who questioned his capacity to run an important committee.

Others whose careers should be a definite inspiration to all of us include:
- Senator Arlen Spector is 78 years old
- Senator John Warner is 81 years old
- Senator Tec Kennedy is 76 years old
- Senator Frank Lautenberg is 84 years old

Senator John McCain at 71 years old, the youngest of this group is actually very much in the running for the toughest job in the land. He is currently engaged in the longest job interview of his life as he runs for the role of President of the United States.

John McCain, if elected, would be the oldest person to take the office of the President of the United States.

Safety Awareness for Hotel Workers

Hotel workers who do a lot of house keeping work always have to lift heavy objects or be constantly exposed to cleaning chemicals. For instance, the act of changing bed sheets requires the hotel work to bend down, lift the mattress up with both hands, and slip the sheets under the mattress. Mattresses are considered heavy objects, especially if one has to repeat the same movements several times a day. If not careful, this seemingly harmless act can lead to severe back injuries.

In addition, hotel workers are also constantly working with cleaning chemicals. There are many different types of chemicals and different hotels choose to use different cleaning agents, detergents, etc. Some cleaning agents is harmless when air borne, but some will cause eye or throat irritations when breathed in directly. To protect the health of the hotel workers, all hotel workers should be properly trained so that they know what safety precautions to take (e.g. wearing masks) when dealing with the chemicals.

For employers who are thinking of cutting corners and saving costs, and would like to do away with the safety training, please reconsider. The benefits of providing such training for hotel workers are very tangible. For instance, if the training is going to help workplace injuries (which is not uncommon), then it’ll naturally lead to less staff on medical leave and lower the staff turnover. After all, who wants to leave an employer who really cares about the safety of the staff? Workers who feel that they are cared for and valued by the companies are certainly more likely be happier in their job, and be more self motivated to do a better job.

Let the hotel workers watch safety videos to promote the general awareness of safety within the premises. Some hotel workers have the tendency to joke safety and not take the training seriously. Let them know that it’s their own health that’s involved here. So it’s in their best interest to take the training more seriously. Even if they refuse to heed your advice the first few times, just keep providing the training. Sooner or later, the wiser staff will acknowledge the benefits of the training, and get the more skeptical colleagues to believe in the training.

For every training program to be effective, there’s a need to understand that different work places pose different hazards. So sometimes, when safety videos are purchased of the shelf, they may not be comprehensive enough to cover all the angles. That’s because many of these angles are unique to your organization. So to make the training more complete, have a senior staff help out during these sessions. Note that we’re talking about a senior staff within the company, and not an external consultant or trainer. The senior staff, who has precious experience in the work place, is in a much better position to pin point the problem areas. Therefore, they are also more likely to have more to contribute during training sessions. Have them bring up all the problems directly related to working in your work place, and address them directly during the training sessions with the aid of the safety videos.

Senior staff, high quality training videos, and a persistent company who takes safety training seriously is what it takes for the safety awareness to be raised.
